A System License needs to be activated at the purchase of the device and includes a set of features. 'Essential' and 'Advanced' may add Individual Licenses on demand at any time. 'Unlimited' includes the full feature set and all future Individual Licenses.
Upgrading to a higher System License is possible, but only from 'Essential' to 'Advanced'. No upgrades to 'Unlimited' are possible after the initial activation.
